Primary Series Invocation
Ever wonder what the invocation for primary series means? Here is the translation from Sanskrit to English:
Om
vande gurunam charanaravinde
sandarshita svatma sukhava bodhe
nih shreyase jangalikayamane
samsara halahala mohasantyai
abahu purusharakam
sankhachakrasi dharinam
sahasra shirsam svetam
pranamami patanjalim
Om
Om
I bow to the lotus feet of the
Supreme Guru who teaches the good
knowledge, that awakens us to great happiness;
who is the doctor of the jungle,
able to remove the poison
of conditioned existence.
To Pantanjali, an incarnation of Adisesa, white
in color with one thousand radiant heads,
holding a sword, a wheel of fire and a
conch, I prostrate,
om
vande gurunam charanaravinde
sandarshita svatma sukhava bodhe
nih shreyase jangalikayamane
samsara halahala mohasantyai
abahu purusharakam
sankhachakrasi dharinam
sahasra shirsam svetam
pranamami patanjalim
Om

We're Back!
We had a truly amazing retreat in Encinitas, California -- the epicenter for Ashtanga in the West. Our passion for Ashtanga was rejuvenated from our enlightening practices with Tim Miller and Sharath Jois.
As we sat on our mats after a difficult, sweaty, illuminating, and beautiful primary series taught by Sharath, he spoke to us about yoga. We were reminded that yoga should become a habit of every day life -- just as brushing your teeth -- and that as we consistently practice we will reap the physical and mental benefits that may be achieved through yoga and eventually reach samadhi, a state of joy and peace. Or put simply, as Pattabhi Jois would say, "practice, and all is coming."
